Comps is operated by Khoi Le, a sole proprietor based in California, United States. This policy explains what information the app collects, where it goes, and what control you have over it.

The short version
- We use your photos to identify items and then delete our copy right away.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
- We don't collect your name, address, phone number, or location.
- We keep a record of what you scanned so your saved scans work.
- You can delete your account and your data at any time.
What we collect
Photos you scan. When you photograph an item, the photo is sent to our server so it can be identified and priced. See "Where your photos go" below.
Your account. If you create an account, we store your email address (if you sign up with email) or the account identifier your provider gives us (if you use Sign in with Apple or Google). We never see your password.
Your subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription, when it renews, and whether you're in a free trial. Purchases are processed by Apple. We never see your payment card details.
Your scans. The items you scan, the prices we found, and when. This is what makes your saved scans work.
Basic usage information. Which parts of the app get used, whether a scan succeeded or failed, and how long it took. This is stored in our own database and with our analytics provider, PostHog. It is not sent to advertisers.
Device and app details, through PostHog. Our analytics provider receives: your device model and manufacturer, operating system version, app version, screen size, language, and time zone, along with your IP address, which it uses to work out roughly which country you're in. It does not build a personal profile of you, and we never send it your name or email.
Masked screen recordings. PostHog records how people move through the app so we can find where it's confusing. These recordings are masked: text, images, and anything you type are hidden before the recording is saved. Your scanned photos and the prices you see are not visible in them.
A random app ID. When you install Comps, the app generates a random number to tell installs apart. It is not connected to your phone's hardware, your Apple ID, or any advertising identifier, and it can't be used to identify you elsewhere.
What we do not collect
- Your name, mailing address, or phone number
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, or other apps' data
- Your photo library. We only receive the specific photos you choose to scan.
- Advertising identifiers. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- Payment card numbers or bank details
Where your photos go
When you scan an item, the photo goes to our server, which then does two things:

Sends it to OpenAI to identify what the item is. OpenAI processes the image to return a description. Under OpenAI's business terms, your image is not used to train their models.

Makes it briefly readable by Google Lens to find visually similar products. To do this, the photo is placed in private storage and given a temporary secret link that expires after two minutes. In practice the link is used within a few seconds, and we delete our copy of the photo immediately after. The storage is private, and the link cannot be guessed or browsed to.
After that, we do not keep your photo. What we keep instead is a fingerprint of the image (a string of characters computed from it). The fingerprint lets us recognize a repeat scan of the same photo so you get a faster answer. It cannot be turned back into your photo.
One exception, on your phone only: if you save a scan, a copy of that photo stays in the app's own storage on your device so the saved scan can display it. That copy never leaves your phone, and deleting the scan or the app removes it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
When you tap a listing: comps open in your phone's browser on eBay's website. Once you're there, eBay's own privacy policy applies, and eBay can see your IP address and set its own cookies. That's outside our control.
How long we keep things
- Your photos: deleted from our servers immediately after each scan.
- Your account: kept until you delete it.
- Your saved scans: kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Pricing data we've cached: we store recent pricing results so repeat scans are faster and cheaper. This data is about products, not about you.
- Usage information: kept while your account is active.
Your choices and rights
Delete your account. You can delete your account and its data from within the app, in Settings. This removes your account, your scan history, and the usage records tied to it. Some information may remain in routine backups for a short period before being overwritten.
Delete individual scans. Remove any saved scan from your history at any time.
Camera and photo access. You can turn off Comps' access to your camera or photos in your phone's Settings at any time. The app won't be able to scan without it.
Notifications. You can turn these off in your phone's Settings.
California residents: California law gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, email [email protected].
Canadian residents: you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to request corrections. Email [email protected].
Children
Comps is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Security
Your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure, which encrypts data in transit and at rest. Access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Where your data is processed
Comps is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on servers in the United States. If you use Comps from Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Comps shows estimates based on current listings from online marketplaces. They are estimates, not appraisals or guarantees of what an item will sell for. See our Terms of Use.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, notify you in the app.
